25 | On 11/19/2021, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Luisa Gavoutian conducted an unannounced case management inspection. LPA met with Director Brittney Randolph, who accompanied LPA on a tour of the facility, and a census was taken. The purpose of today’s inspection was to inspect the new gate that was installed around a pond in the outdoor play area.
During the annual inspection conducted on 07/14/2021, LPA had observed a pond adjacent to the outdoor play area outside of classrooms 10 and 24. LPA had observed the fence surrounding the pond was not in compliance with Divison 1, Appendix Chapter 4 of the 1994 Uniform Building Code as stated in California Code of Regulation section 101238(e). On that date, LPA had a conversation with Director to repair or replace the fence to bring it into compliance.
On this date, LPA inspected the fence that has recently been installed to meet regulatory requirement. LPA observed the pond to be surrounded by a five-foot chain link fence with a gap of two inches between the links. LPA observed the door to the gate had been equipped with a gravity latch located no more than six inches from the top of the fence. LPA tested the door and observed it to swing away from the pond and be self-closing and self-latching. LPA observed the clearance between the bottom of the fence and the soft ground had been filled with dirt and rocks and there was a gap of no more than two inches. Director stated that the door to the firing room on the west side of the pond is always locked; staff access the building twice per year after business hours to fire up clay. No children are allowed access to the building.
On this date, LPA inspected the newly installed fence around the facility’s pond and found it to be in compliance with regulatory requirements.
No deficiency cited during today’s inspection. Exit interview conducted with Director Brittney Randolph. LIC 9213 Notice of Site Visit was provided and must remain posted for 30 days.
