32 | The wooden bench that the children were standing on had been placed up against the fence separating the adjacent pond and children had been standing on the bench looking into the pond area when the incident occurred. LPA discussed safety around bodies of water with Interim Director and informed that the bench should not be placed near the fence of the body of water so it cannot be used to climb into the pond area. The bench was measured to be 10 inches in height. During today's inspection, LPA also observed a large storage container in the unlicensed outdoor area where the incident occurred, near the fence separating the area with the pond area, which could pose a hazard of children climbing onto the storage unit and then over the fence into the pond area. Interim Director stated the storage container is empty and will be removed today. LPA advised that the outdoor area not be used for any field trips until the storage container has been removed.
This appears to be an isolated incident and staff took appropriate measures to address the child’s injury, following appropriate policies, regulations, and reporting requirements.
Per Chapter 1, Division 12, Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations, the following deficiency is found: (see LIC809-D).
