32 | Drinking water is readily available to children through personal water bottles, disposable cups, drinking fountains, or filtered water from the faucet. The facility provides meals and snacks to children; food is prepared on site. Parents may also provide meals from home, provided the meals do not contain nuts. Menus are posted at least one week in advance in a location accessible to authorized representatives. Occasionally, on Fridays, Saturdays, and other special days, the facility purchases pizza for the children.
The facility is operating within the capacity and limitations stated on its license. At least one staff member trained in CPR and Pediatric First Aid is present during hours of operation and during off-site activities. The name of the director or fully qualified teacher designated to act in the director’s absence has been reported to the Department.
All children are under supervision, including visual supervision, by a teacher at all times. The facility maintains appropriate teacher-child ratios.
LPA reviewed a sample of children’s files and confirmed they contain contact information for authorized representatives and/or individuals who can assume responsibility for the child, along with medical assessments. A review of staff files showed documentation of health screenings, immunization records for influenza, pertussis, and measles, as well as current certificates for mandated reporter training.
LPA discussed the Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD) website at www.ccld.ca.gov, which provides access to forms, regulations, Provider Information Notices (PINs), and quarterly updates.
Reporting requirements, as outlined in Section 101212 of the regulations, were reviewed.
Director Kate Gonzales was reminded that all adults 18 years of age or older, including employees and volunteers (except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871), must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, before being present in a child care center. Failure to comply will result in a civil penalty of $100.00 per day, per person, for up to 5 days, or up to 30 days for repeat violations.
