On February 21, 2024, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Paul Garcia conducted an unannounced licensee-initiated case management inspection. LPA met with Director Erin Willcox and toured the facility inside and outside. A census was obtained. The purpose of the inspection was to inspect and give guidance on the plan to separate the facility’s single large play yard into three (3) separate play yards to improve the ability for staff to provide 100% supervision of the children. LPA measured the area, and it matches a previous measurement recorded by the department in 1975 of 7440 sq ft. (155 x 48 square feet) However currently the outdoor play area has a storage shed that measures 10 x 20 square feet. which makes the usable area 7240 square feet.

Per the director, two rod iron fences measuring four (4) feet high will be installed in the playground which would divide the current outdoor play yard into three (3) sections.

LPA observed a large play structure suitable for children five (5) years old to twelve (12) years of age (per manufacture) and obtained documentation that it was installed in September 2005. However, Children who are enrolled in the preschool or daycare program (ages 2-6) shall not be allowed to use the structure unless a certified safety play structure inspector inspects and approves in writing, the use by any other age groups.
LPA observed two large trees that will temporarily be used to meet licensing requirements for shade until future plans to install shade canopies over play yard one (1) and three (3). Play yard two (2) that contains the play structure already has an existing large canopy for shade.

LPA confirmed that outdoor water is available for children when needed via bubbler and igloos.
Per Director Wilcox construction will be completed on a weekend while no children will be present. Director Willcox will also provide a new outdoor facility sketch as it will need to be updated once the change is completed. Director Wilcox anticipates that construction will begin in about two months.

An exit interview was conducted with Director Wilcox and a copy of this report was discussed and provided.
