25 | On 08/22/24 Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Christopher Burnias met with Licensee Mayra Ruiz Reyes at the facility to conduct a case management inspection of the backyard area. Licensee currently has the backyard inaccessible to children and would like to make it accessible.
LPA toured the facility and a census was taken. Licensee informed LPA that they own firearms and ammunition. LPA verified the location of the firearm and ammunition located in a locked safe inside the closet of an inaccessible room of the facility. LPA verified that the firearm is secured inside the locked safe and has a trigger lock. LPA verified ammunition is also locked inside the safe.
Upon inspecting the backyard area, LPA observed an accessible HVAC unit, accessible sprinkler control box and cables, and accessible electric water heater with accessible pipes and valve controls which could pose a potential hazard to children in care.
LPA advised Licensee to make the HVAC, Sprinker box, cables, Water heater, pipes and valves inaccessible by installing a barrier to prevent children's access to those items. LPA did not approve the backyard for use at this time due to the potential hazards present.
At this time, Licensee wishes to contact management regarding their current layout of the backyard before agreeing to installing any barriers to the areas of the items mentioned above. Licensee plans to communicate further with the Department to come up with a solution to make the outdoor space accessible. Licensee understands that the backyard must remain inaccessible to children until approved by the Department.
Per Title 22, Division 12, Chapter 3 of the California Code of Regulations, no deficiencies are cited. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with Licensee, Mayra Ruiz Reyes. Licensee was provided appeal rights. This report shall be made available to the public upon request. LIC 9213 Notice of Site Visit is provided and required to be posted for 30 days. |
