32 | Beginning at 9:36 AM, furniture and equipment were inspected for age appropriateness and good repair. LPAs observed carpets and flooring in classroom to be free of hazards. LPAs observed child size tables and chairs available for children well maintained. LPAs observed learning stations for dramatic play, math, and science with toys well maintained free of loose and sharp parts and a library area available for quiet play. Telephone service, heating, lighting and ventilation were evaluated. There were cubbies observed as storage for children's belongings. Per CT, children do not nap at the facility due to part time program offering. Availability of drinking water was reviewed. LPAs observed children's personal water bottles for water which teachers refill through water fountains in classroom. Age appropriate sinks and toilets were inspected for availability, good repair, water temperature, toilet paper, area safety and sanitation. LPAs observed two bathroom available in classroom that each had one toilet and one sink, totaling two toilets and two sinks, with a third sink available outside of the bathroom.
Snack/lunch menus were reviewed. All meals and snacks are provided by the Long Beach Unified School District. Per CT, AM Program is provided a breakfast and PM Program is provided lunch which staff picks up from elementary school cafeteria. Trash cans used to discard food have tight fitting lids.
LPAs observed a first aid kit is kept in classroom near sink and was inventoried for supplies. At 9:37 AM, carbon monoxide detectors were tested and smoke detectors observed present in the facility. Fire extinguishers have been serviced on 07/18/2022. LPAs observed disaster drill log available, last drill conducted on 11/30/2022. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, medication and other items that are dangerous to children, were inaccessible to children. Per CT, those items are stored in separate storage room and shed outside of classroom. Coordinating Teacher states that there are no poisons stored at the facility and no children in care currently have medications. LPAs observed storage for medicine in classroom and no medicines were observed.
Teacher-child ratios were observed and staff names recorded. Care and supervision was evaluated to determine if the basic needs of children are met and appropriate. Sign-in and out sheets and procedures were reviewed. Facility is currently using electronic sign in/out procedures and LPAs observed all children present signed in at time of inspection. Personal Rights of children were observed by LPA.
