On June 26, 2024, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Staicy Perry conducted an unannounced case management inspection for an incident that was reported to the department on June 17, 2024. The incident was reported to the department in a timely manner on 6/17/2024. A COVID-19 risk assessment was assessed prior to entering the facility. LPA met with Program Director, Veronica Herrera who guided LPA on a tour of the facility. LPA observed 24 children in care.

Brief Summary: On 6/17/2024, upon arrival to the facility, Program Director Veronica Herrera turned on A/C unit and it was not working. After several attempts, the unit did not want to function. Therefore, the Program Director Veronica placed blade less fans in classrooms and temperature gauges were purchased at The Home Depot to monitor temperatures in the classroom. Action taken by the facility was HVAC company was called immediately to assess the units.

On June 17, 2024, LPA Perry reached out to facility to gather more information as to what steps the facility was taking to address then AC unit malfunction. LPA Perry spoke to Veronica, Program Director who stated that she is currently in the process with following up with HVAC to see when the issue can be resolved. In the meantime, Program Director Veronica stated that fans and portable AC units were purchased to maintain good temperatures in the classrooms. Per Program Director, classroom #1 is closed. Program Director stated that once temperatures reaches 80 degrees a re-evaluation will be done to consider closing those affected classrooms. Families will be notified, and classroom closure will follow.

During the inspection LPA Perry inspected the affected classrooms (Classroom #1, Classroom #2 and Classroom #3). LPA Perry took temperatures in the classrooms and observed in classroom #1 and classroom #2 to have portable fans placed around the room and in classroom #3 LPA Perry observed 2 portable AC units due to this classroom having windows to place the vent in. LPA documented temperatures and observed temperatures to be in regulation with Title 22.
