licensee’s room. Medications for the children are stored in a backpack located in the kitchen. Licensee stated that licensee is enrolled in a food program and is providing meals and snacks to children.
The facility is a one-story house. The fireplace is covered with a glass door and is also blocked by a wooden furniture. The home has central heating and air conditioning units.
Safe and age-appropriate toys, kitchen set toy, cash register toy, highchair, cribs, play pen, diaper changing table, trash bin for solid waste, small wooden cabinet, wooden blocks, puzzles, dolls, books, small table and chairs, cubbies, manipulative, dramatic play toys, arts and crafts, and other learning materials were observed during the inspection. LPA also observed sleeping mats for children to use during nap time.
Licensee has first aid kit boxes stored in the upper kitchen cabinets. LPA observed electrical outlets are covered with a child safety plastic plug to prevent access by children in care.
Bathroom: Toilet, sink and faucet were clean and operable. During the inspection, LPA observed step stools and potty seat cover inside the bathroom. LPA did not observe razors and/or sharp objects, shampoos, mouthwash, medications, perfumes, air freshener, nail polish and nail remover that will pose a health and safety risk to children in care.
Licensee stated that when a child shows signs of illness, the child is separated from other children in bedroom 1 of the facility.
Outdoor: The facility has no body of water on the premises. LPA did not observe body of water in the backyard. However, licensee has an aquarium (12”x16”x23”) located on the side of the door leading to the backyard. The outdoor play area has a covered porch and is made up of concrete and grass. LPA observed age-appropriate toys and play equipment. LPA observed seesaw, big puzzles toys, and a caterpillar tunnel. During this visit, LPA observed one staff supervising six children while playing outside.
At the time of inspection, Licensee is aware of the requirement to report unusual incidents and/or injuries to the parent/guardian and Licensing on the day of the incident and/or 24 hours of incident by telephone, fax and/or in writing to the Department. Licensee is familiar with the Unusual Incident Report form, LIC624B. The report on unusual incident/injuries can also be mailed to unusualIncidentreport@dss.ca.gov
Review of records to be maintained: LPA reviewed with licensee the LIC 311D, Forms/Records To Keep In Your Family Child Care Homes, children’s forms/records, facility forms/records, and information to be posted. LPA reviewed eight children’s files, licensee, and assistant’s files. Based on records review, children’s files are complete. Licensee and assistants have current mandated reporter training and CPR/First Aid trainings |
