32 | Per reporting party many children were hospitalized with Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV). Staff are not screening children at drop off, parents are not being notified of the illnesses and staff is not doing anything to prevent the spread of illnesses.
Interviews with staff indicate that staff consistently reported isolating children who show symptoms of illness by separating them at specific tables, using dividers, or placing them near staff supervision until parents arrive. Staff described immediate parent notification through calls, texts, or the Brightwheel app, with children typically picked up quickly. Staff also stated that cleaning and sanitizing routines occur multiple times per day, including wiping tables, disinfecting toys, sanitizing bathrooms, and conducting end-of-day cleaning, with additional weekly toy and bedding sanitation. Staff reported performing wellness checks at drop-off and monitoring throughout the day for symptoms. All interviews, staff denied instances of children being kept in care while visibly ill for extended periods and reported no clusters or outbreaks. Based on staff accounts, staff expressed that isolation procedures and disease-mitigation practices are being carried out as required.
Parents consistently reported that staff conduct some form of health screening at drop-off, either asking about symptoms, visually checking for injuries or illness, or reminding families to keep sick children at home. Parents generally stated that their children had not been kept in care while visibly ill, and most reported only routine colds with no serious or recurring illnesses. Parents described staff as communicating promptly through Brightwheel, phone calls, or text when a child became sick, and several parents noted that staff inform families when contagious illnesses or stomach bugs occur.
