32 | According to the narrative provided by S1, S2, and S3, C1 was sitting on the orange little tykes brand infant slide and experienced a bowel movement that leaked from their diaper onto the slide. C2 was playing with C1 and standing directly behind C1 when the incident occurred. The area where the feces hit the slide was between C1 and C2 in an area that was directly in front of C2, and C2 stuck their fingers in it. C1 proceeded down the slide, and S2 and S3 noted that they smelled feces. There was another child who at the time had soiled their diaper, and was immediately taken inside to be cleaned. During this time, C2 rubbed the feces onto their shirt and face. S2 and S3 noticed that the smell of feces had not gone away and checked C2 who was found to have gotten ahold of C1’s feces. C2 was immediately taken inside to be cleaned by S3, and S1 alerted the parents of C2. Additionally, S2 observed feces on the orange little tykes brand infant slide. The rest of the infant class was taken inside to ensure the playground toys/ structures could be sanitized in a proper manner. S1 sanitized the slides, and all infant play yard items and did not allow the infant class to use this yard until the following day. C2 was taken to the urgent care by their parents per S1’s precautionary request. LPA Carus spoke to the parent of C2 and was informed that C2 was cleared by the urgent care to be healthy, and with no outstanding illnesses or sicknesses due to the incident.
Additionally, LPA Carus viewed the video footage of the entirety of the incident, and confirmed that staff were properly supervising the children in the outdoor area, as well as taking proper sanitary, and precautionary measures to ensure the play area came back into a usable state.
Furthermore, LPA Carus advised director to inform staff to keep a close eye on children playing behind equipment, and when other children are near as a preventative measure regarding similar incidents.
At this time, based on the available information, no violations will be cited today.
The content of this report was read and discussed in detail with Ndidi Duruhesie, preschool director.
