On 12/06/2021 Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Meghan McGee conducted an announced inspection with applicant , Joselyn Renteria, for the purpose of a pre-licensing inspection of 3159 West 152nd place, Gardena, CA 90249. The purpose of this inspection is to ensure the standards for a Family Child Care Home are being met in accordance to California Tittle 22 Regulations and California Health and Safety Codes.

The applicant is applying for a small family childcare license with a Max capacity of 8. Property owner/landlord consent (LIC 9151) is currently on file. The applicant rents/leases property with adult Jose and two minor children. Lease agreement/control of property was received.

Per the application, currently, the ages the applicant wishes to provide services for children 6 months old to 5 years old with the hours of operation of Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:30pm. Applicant was informed that any changes to ages, hours and days of operation shall be submitted to the department for approval prior to initiation of changes.

The home is a single-family home with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, living room, laundry room and kitchen. The home does have a detached garage where most of the care while be provided to the children in care.

Parents will access the home through the side gate.

Entering the home, LPA observed the entrance way where the outlet covering needs to be replaced due to it being broken. LPA observed the living room to the left of the home with a wall heater not covered with a metal barrier. LPA observed a sectional couch with an ottoman. LPA observed a wall mounted TV, table against the window, AC unit mounted on the wall and a shelf mounted to the wall in the corner by the sectional. TV and AC unit need plastic coverings for the hanging cords. LPA observed a play horse and a rocking chair.

Next to the living room is the hallway. Hallway has a wall heater that needs a metal barrier. Hallway has two closets with latch hooks to make them inaccessible to children. Hallway has a working smoke detector/ carbon monoxide detector. LPA observed tools on the top shelf of closet 1 and nail polish on the top shelf of closet 2. Bedroom 1 is OFF LIMITS to children in care and needs a safety lock on the door. Bathroom is next to bedroom 1. Bathroom has a sink, toilet, and potty chair for children to use. Shower was inspected and has a curtain. LPA observed body wash that needs to be put away in latch lock cabinet in closet. LPA observed cabinet above toilet that needs a lock. LPA observed a shelf in the bathroom behind the door. Shampoos and other liquids need to be moved to closet in the hallway with a latch lock. Next to bathroom is Bedroom 2. LPA observed working smoke detector/ carbon monoxide detector. Bedroom has play pen for nap, bunk bed, dresser, closet and toys for children in care. Dresser drawers and closet need safety latch. Bags of clothes need to be put away.

To the right of entering the home, is the kitchen. The stove, refrigerator, sink, counter space area were observed and inspected. LPA observed knife block on counter that needs to be put in a higher cabinet. Applicant will providing breakfast and snack. LPA discussed food preparation, storage and ensuring a log and information regarding dietary restrictions and allergies are kept up to date. As a COVID precautions. LPA advised applicant to use disposable paper goods. The kitchen leads to the laundry room. LPA observed detergent on the washer that needs to be put in cabinet above the washer. Laundry room leads has door that leads to the outdoor space.

Outside there is a detached garage where care will be taking place dependent upon weather. Garage is set up with tables, chairs, cubbies, shelving with appropriate toys for children in care. Garage has couch, soft toys, and cots for nap. Fire extinguisher was observed in working condition. Applicant stated that a door will be made so there is an entrance to the garage so the garage door can be closed. Table in garage is working space for applicant. Outdoor yard has plastic climbing structure, water tables, and house area. Currently, dirt area will be replaced with cement. There is a dirt trail that leads to an outdoor bench area and garden area. LPA observed rocks that are being removed by the back fence. LPA observed a lock shed. Outside shed is items such as a wheel barrel, deep freezer, water hose and wood that needs to be put in locked shed.

There are corrections that need to be made that were noted in the report to be in compliance with Title 22 and California Health and Safety Codes. LPA did not observe a First Aid Box or changing table. LPA will schedule a follow up inspection at a later date.

Exit interview was conducted with applicant and a copy of the report was left at the facility.
