32 | All outdoor and indoor passageways, stairways, inclines, ramps, open porches and other areas of potential hazard were observed to be free of obstruction. The child care center was observed be clean, safe, sanitary and in good repair. Floors in the rooms have a surface that is safe and clean. A comfortable temperature for children was observed, facility has central heating and air. The infant care center was observed to be equipped with appropriate furniture and equipment including, cribs, cots, changing tables, and feeding chairs. Tables and chairs were observed to be meet the needs of the children. Furniture was observed to be in good repair and safe condition.
Toys were observed to be safe, with no sharp points or edges, or be made of small parts that can be pulled off and swallowed. LPA advised rattles shall be large enough so that they cannot become lodged in an infant's throat and constructed so that they will not separate into small pieces.
LPA observed individual permanent and portable storage space for children’s personal belongings. All materials and surfaces accessible to children, including toys, was observed to be free of toxic substances.
LPA observed a water cooler available for drinking water. Facility has a monthly pest control service to assist in keeping the center free of flies, other insects, and rodents. All trash cans were observed with tight fitting lids in good repair. No Fireplaces or open-faced heaters were observed at facility.
LPA advised disinfectants, cleaning solutions, poisons and other items that could pose a danger if readily available to children shall be stored where inaccessible to children. Storage areas for poisons shall be locked. LPA advised shall maintain first-aid supplies in a location accessible to staff but inaccessible to children. LPA observed a current edition of a first-aid manual, sterile first-aid dressings, bandages or roller bandages, adhesive tape, scissors, thermometer, and antiseptic solution.
Facility isolation area was observed to be in the director office. LPA advised any infant in the isolation area shall be under constant visual observation by a director, an assistant director, a teacher or an aide.
The isolation area has a cot for each ill infant. LPA advised a crib or pack play can be used in the isolation area for infants in addition to the cot. LPA advised the isolation area shall not be located in the kitchen area or the general-use toilet area.
