Per licensee, room next to the kitchen is used for younger children. LPA observed soft mats and toys in the space. LPA observed pack and plays, a highchair and a variety of children’s books and soft toys.
Kitchen was observed and inspected. Home provides meals and snacks. LPA discussed the importance of maintaining a system where allergies and food restrictions are noted. LPA encouraged licensee to contact their local resource and referral agency, Crystal Stairs, to inquire about the different resources and professional development opportunities available.
A small hallway was observed that leads to the bedrooms and bathroom; LPA observed a safety gate between the hallway and living room. Bathroom was observed and inspected. LPA reminded licensee to ensure all toiletries are made inaccessible to the children in care and/or while children are present.
Parent board was observed in the Patio area; board was observed with all the necessary postings.
The licensee was informed that any changes to ages, hours and days of operation shall be submitted to the department via signed LIC 279, for approval prior to initiation of changes.
LPA observed a working smoke detector and carbon monoxide in the home. A working fire extinguisher was observed in the space. LPA reminded licensee that fire extinguishers need to be serviced annually and proof of such service needs to be available for LPA’s review.
Licensee confirmed that fire drills and earthquake drills are completed. LPA remind licensee to ensure all drills are completed and documented in a timely manner. Each family child care home shall conduct fire drills and disaster drills at least once every six months. The licensee shall document the drills, including the date and time of each drill. This documentation shall kept at the family child care home.
Adequate heating and ventilation for safety and comfort were observed in the space. The home has a working telephone service and LPA confirmed the phone number and email address.
Licensee ensures that children in care are supervised at all times and is aware children shall not be left in parked vehicles. Car seats are used for transportation purposes only and are not used for sleeping children.
