32 | The investigation revealed the following regarding the allegation: “Staff do not ensure facility is free from pests” It is alleged pests have been observed in the facility kitchen. Staff interviews conducted corroborated this allegation. Resident interviews conducted corroborated this allegation. During tour of kitchen area, LPA Ramirez observed several small black/brown pellet droppings under a wire shelf rack, and on top of canned goods in the facility pantry area. Although the facility maintains pest control services, interviews with staff revealed the facility has been unable to eliminate rodents from the kitchen area for at least 6 months. Interview with Administrator Commodore revealed the facility receives pest control services twice a month as part of routine maintenance but is still unable to eradicate rodents from the kitchen. This poses a immediate risk to the health, safety, or personal rights of persons in care.
Per Title 22, Division 6, Chapter 8, Article 10- General Food Service Requirements- 87555(b)(2)- (b) The following food service requirements shall apply: (27) All kitchen areas shall be kept clean and free of litter, rodents, vermin and insects. Based on interviews and observations, the preponderance of evidence standard has been met, therefore the above allegation is found to be Substantiated. LPA Ramirez will issue one (1) type A deficiency. A copy of this report, 9099-D and appeals rights was provided. Exit interview was conducted. |
