25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Warren Birks conducted an unannounced Required - 1 Year inspection. LPA met with Licensee Veronica Coles who guided LPA on a tour of the childcare areas. Upon arrival, LPA observed the Licensee and cleared assistant caring for nine children (six preschool and three infants). Per Licensee there are 15 children enrolled. The child roster is current. At approximately, 9:45am Licensee informed LPA that there is a visitor in an off limits back room that is visiting for the day due to a family emergency. LPA informed Licensee that all adults in the presence of children must be fingerprinted (Note the back room is near the hallway that is part of the daycare). The facility is cited for fingerprint clearance. Licensee Coles indicated the individual will get fingerprinted today so that she may visit the facility on a more frequent basis (during the family emergency).
At 8:55am all areas of the facility sketch were inspected. The facility is a single story home which consist of 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, living room, dining room, kitchen, den, garage and backyard. The Licensee provides care using the daycare room (den), the backyard and one bathroom down the hallway. Areas off-limits to children and parents include: All three bedrooms and the garage. The backyard play area is surrounded by gates that are higher than five feet. The garage and back entrance (leading to the sidewalk) remain locked. There is a shed that remains locked and inaccessible.
Areas accessible to children were inspected to ensure that they are clean and orderly with ventilation and heating for the safety of the children. LPA observed toys and play equipment appeared to be safe indoors and outdoors. There is a working telephone maintained in the home. The backyard Licensee has no pets. LPA advised Licensee to provide extra care and supervision as animals may be unpredictable. Detergents, cleaning compounds, medications, and other items which can pose a danger to children are inaccessible in all areas used by children. LPA informed Licensee that poisons must be locked with a key or combination lock. LPA reminded Licensee that all medicines, chemicals, cleaners, nail polish, shampoos, sharp objects, grills, propane, and similar items must be inaccessible at all times. |
