32 | By the dining area there is a short staircase that leads down to a lower area on the same floor as the house. Where children are less than five years old are in care, stairs are fenced or barricaded. There is a child safety gate which keeps stairs inaccessible to children. The bathroom utilized by the children was attached to the dining room. LPA observed a child lock on the cabinet underneath the sink. Detergents, cleaning compounds, medications, and other items which could pose a danger are inaccessible to children. LPA observed first aid supplies next to the kitchen, that is off limits and made inaccessible to children in care by a safety gate. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors were tested and are operable. At 12:55pm, a fire extinguisher was observed. The valve on the required 2A 10BC fire extinguisher indicates fully charged and was serviced on 09/23/2021, as indicated on service tag. Per State Fire Marshall standards, fire extinguishers shall be serviced annually. The licensee states that there is a land line on the premises, but mainly uses the cell phone number that is on file. The licensee states that there are no poisons in the home and understands that storage areas for poisons must be locked with a key or combination lock.
At 1:05pm, LPA observed the back yard area. The outdoor play area was observed to be fenced. At this time, children are using the front yard, back yard, and side driveway as play areas. Per licensee, the shaded patio in the front of the house, will be used as an area for an ill child until an authorized representative comes to pick up child. The licensee states they will sit with the child. There are age appropriate playhouses, slides, and rideable carts for children in care to use. There is a grass area that the home dog uses for bathroom. Licensee states they check the area at all times before children come out to play. The licensee is observed to be operating within the license capacity limitations.
FACILITY RECORDS:
The licensee and other personnel have completed training on preventive health practices including Pediatric First Aid and CPR. The licensee's Pediatric First Aid and CPR expires on 02/2024 Licensee and other personnel have complete mandated reporter training that 03/26/2024. The licensee does have proof of immunization against influenza, tuberculosis, pertussis, and measles. Children’s records were reviewed, including but not limited to, a copy of the emergency information card that contains all the information specified by regulation.
LPA observed COVID Health and Safety posters on the wall in the living room at the facility. Staff were wearing face masks during the time of the inspection.
