Children use the bathroom in the hallway. Licensee stated she guides the children to the bathroom. Personal hygiene items are kept in a latched cabinet under the sink. Per Licensee, a section of the den is used as the isolation area in case a child becomes ill and is waiting to be picked up. Children use a section of the backyard for outdoor play. Per Licensee, children are supervised while playing outside. At approximately 1:58 PM while touring the on limits outdoor area, LPAs observed a decorative water fountain. LPAs observed fountain to be running and filled with about 2 gallons of water. This poses an immediate risk to the safety of children in care. Licensee turned off the fountain during the inspection. No children were observed playing outside at this time. Per Licensee, children have not used the outdoor area in the last few weeks due to the weather. Licensee was advised no bodies of water shall be accessible to children in care.
LPAs observed insect poison (RAID) in an upper cabinet. Cabinet is out of reach from children and made inaccessible by the gate in the kitchen. Licensee was advised that all poisons must be locked, not only inaccessible to children. Licensee moved items to locked garage. Per Licensee, there are no firearms or weapons stored in the home. There are no pools or spas, or other bodies of water. There is a pet dog in the home.
Overnight Care: There is no overnight care provided. LPA discussed the following in case overnight care is provided: Licensee is aware that they must remain wake while children are awake. If children sleep in separate area from licensee, the door must remain open. If licensee cannot hear children when they wake up, video or audio device can be used.
Children’s records were reviewed and are complete.

During inspection all children were observed to be treated with dignity and respect, they were observed to be receiving safe, healthful and comfortable accommodations, furnishings and equipment, and free from corporal and/or unusual punishment Currently Licensee does not have infants enrolled. LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with the Licensee and discussed the child care licensing safe sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. |
