LPA observed wooden Lakeshore shelves filled with soft blocks, large manipulative toys, balls, puzzles, and wooden play kitchen in each classroom. LPA did not observe any baby walkers or any items that fall into that category present in the facility. All materials and surfaces accessible to children are toxic free. All indoor classrooms were inspected to ensure that the floors have a surface that is safe and clean. LPA observed carpets and soft play mats on the floor of each classroom and floor to be free of hazards.
LPA observed children have their own cubby to store their belongings in each classroom. Napping equipment was observed in a separate room. Storage for infants’ belongings and napping equipment/cribs was inspected and meet all regulatory requirements. At 10:00 AM, LPA observed standard blue cots for used in each classroom. Per Director, they do not have infants younger than 12 months at this time, standard Community Playthings cribs are kept in a storage room at this time. Per Director 1 teacher is always supervising the nap room while infants sleep. (LPA discussed Safe Sleep Practices and form provided)Linens are changed daily or more frequently, as needed by staff. Age appropriate sinks and toilets were inspected for availability and good repair in all restrooms. Young Infant and Older Infant Room share a bathroom that is located in between the classrooms. General sanitation was observed. At 10:12 AM, LPA observed that infant changing tables have a padded surface no less than one-inch-thick and are covered with washable vinyl or plastic. The infant changing tables have raised sides that are at least 3 inches high. LPA observed that infant changing tables are within an arm’s reach of a sink.
Telephone service, heating, lighting and ventilation were evaluated and are in operating condition. Per Director, the isolation area is located in the her office. LPA observed a blue mat in the isolation area for ill children. Parents are contacted immediately when children are determined to be ill. Availability of drinking water was reviewed, per Director faucets provide filtered water that teachers use for drinking water. First Aid supplies were observed in each classroom.
Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, medication and other items that are dangerous to children, were observed to be inaccessible. According to the Director, medication is only administered to a child when accompanied with a doctor's note and is stored in each classroom. LPA observed a locked medicine bin for use for medications in each classroom. Director states at this time they have no children requiring medication. Director states that there are no poisons stored at the facility and understands
