25 | On 02/21/2024 at 1:45 PM Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Katrina Chicote and Claudia Kam conducted an Unannounced Case Management inspection to follow up on an incident that was reported to The Department on 02/08/2024. Upon arrival, LPAs announced purpose of visit and initially met with Facility Representative (FR), Ashley Gauff, who granted entry to facility. Census was taken. Head Teacher, Kimberly Young, joined us during inspection at 1:55 PM.
On 02/08/2024, an incident was reported to the department where a child had an asthma attack and medication (inhaler) had to be administered and 911 was called. The facility reported this incident to the Department within the required 24 hours and submitted written report within seven days.
During this inspection LPAs interviewed staff who observed the incident. Per Head Teacher, they administered inhaler to child after child was observed to be breathing heavy and stated they could not breathe. After 15 minutes, medicine had not shown to be effective 911 and Authorized Representative was called. Authorized Representative arrived first and waited for Fire Dept. to arrive to check vitals then EMT was called to provide further medical attention, Authorized Representative chose to take child home to see Primary Care Physician and refused EMT services to take to hospital. LPAs conducted record review of medicine stored and observed that medication was administered and logged consistent to information on incident report submitted. Per Head Teacher, follow up has been conducted with child and Authorized Representative, and though child has not yet returned to facility they are planning to. Based on the information obtained and LPAs record review, LPAs determined there was adequate response to incident and record review of medicine administered is consistent with Title 22 Regulation requirements.
The facility was found in compliance per Title 22 regulations, there will be no deficiencies cited today, 02/21/2024. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days.
Exit interview was conducted and report was reviewed with the Head Teacher, Kimberly Young.
