25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Nolan Tcheng conducted an unannounced Case Management-Licensee Initiated inspection, for the purpose of reviewing a room for child care. Upon arrival at 1:50pm, LPA met with Director Christine Jennings, to whom the purpose of the inspection was explained. Tour of the facility was provided. There were children present, napping, during time of inspection.
Census was taken. There were 11 children with 1 staff member.
Licensee wishes to have the Activity Room reviewed for use as child care. Per director, the room will be used for enrichment activities. LPA entered and reviewed the room. There were cabinets and sink in the room straight across from the entrance to the room. Counter of the cabinets will need to be organized and the contents of the cabinets will need to be removed. A large commercial refrigerator was also present in the Activity Room. LPA observed electrical outlets accessible to children, and discussed the need to have them covered. There is a curtain covering a computer station, along with maintenance ladders and supplies. LPA advised removal of maintenance equipment and adding a child safety gate to make small computer nook inaccessible to children. Pictures were obtained during inspection.
Fire Clearance from inspection request: "Facility wishes to have Activity Room inspected to be used as a child care space for ages 2-5." Request was approved as of 03/22/2024 by Pasadena Fire Department.
Corrections to be made, prior to Department approval of Activity Room, due by 05/31/2024:
1. Electrical covers by commercial refrigerator
2. Removal of maintenance equipment by computer nook
3. Gate to make computer nook inaccessible to children
4. Organization of room prior to child care use.
