25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Veronica Martinez Garza conducted an unannounced required 3-year inspection at the above facility on 01/17/24 at 09:10 a.m. LPA met with Director, Melissa Dundas who guided LPA on a tour of the facility. This is a preschool age program licensed with a toddler component for 43 preschool children and 19 toddlers. The facility operates Monday – Friday from 08:30 a.m. – 05:30 p.m. Per the Director, there are 79 children enrolled.
All areas identified on the Facility Sketch were inspected. The following staff was present during this inspection: 09 toddlers with 02 staff in the Ivy classroom, 17 preschoolers with 03 staff in the Daisy classroom, 21 preschoolers with 05 staff in the Poppy classroom, and 15 preschoolers with 02 staff in the Eucalyptus classroom. The Eucalyptus and Poppy classroom are shared classrooms. LPA observed that the Daisy and Ivy classrooms were initially licensed under the toddler component. During the facility tour, LPA observed that the Daisy classroom is being used for preschool children. LPA also observed that the Ivy classroom is allowed to have 8 toddlers, however, LPA observed 9 toddlers in care. Facility will have to disenroll 1 toddler. Teacher-child ratios were observed to be in accordance with Title 22 Regulations. Staff names were recorded on the attached LIC859. All children were observed to be under supervision, including visual supervision, of a teacher at all times. The licensed facility is within the conditions, limitations, and capacity specified on the license.
LPA observed the facility to be clean, sanitary and in good repair. All indoor classrooms were inspected to ensure that the floors have a surface that is safe and clean. Furniture and equipment are in good condition, free of sharp, loose, or pointed parts. Drinking water was readily available indoors. LPA observed mats are used as napping equipment. LPA observed all children have their own cubby. All toilets and hand washing facilities are safe, sanitary and are operating properly. At this time, the "office" is used as an isolation area. A mat is available for an ill child to rest on. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, medication and other items that are dangerous to children, were inaccessible to children. All storage containers for solid waste, including moveable bins shall have tight-fitting covers that are kept on, and in good repair. Trash cans used to discard food have tight fitting lids. The facility was observed to be free of flies, other insects, and rodents.
