LPA observed that there is a baby gate to make the kitchen and hallway off-limits. Licensee states the door to the off limits’ bedroom is kept locked during day care hours, however it was unlocked during this visit.
LPA informed Licensee that off limit areas must be made inaccessible during operating hours.
All areas identified on the facility sketch were inspected to ensure that they are clean and orderly with ventilation and heating for the safety and comfort of the children. There is a working telephone maintained in the home.
The living room is used as the main day care area. LPA observed age-appropriate toys such as blocks, books, art supplies, dramatic play materials, and sensory toys all free of loose and sharp parts.
LPA did not observe any exposed electrical outlets. LPA observed detergents, and other cleaning items, which can pose a danger to children, in an unlatched cabinet under the sink in the children’s restroom, accessible to children in care. This poses a potential risk to children in care. Licensee states children are escorted to the restroom by herself or assistant, and the cabinet is usually latched. LPA recommended moving cleaning items to another area where they will be inaccessible to children in care or keeping the cabinet latched during day care hours.
Licensee states that there are no poisons in the home. The Licensee does understand that poison must be locked. The Licensee was advised that inaccessibility of hazards must be constantly reassessed depending on the children in care. Personal Rights of children were observed by LPA at time of inspection.
