Allegation: Staff are not following infection control protocol
It is being alleged that a resident has been diagnosed with scabies and 5 other residents have symptoms. On 8/17/26, LPA Felisa Shirley conducted a review of current infection control practices and protocols at Brittany House, which included isolation, appropriate hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when indicated, environmental cleaning and disinfection, and ongoing monitoring for signs and symptoms of communicable conditions. On 8/17/26, LPA Shirley reviewed Brittany House’s infection control training found within the Plans of Operation and observed that the facility’s infection control procedures are aligned with the requirements of Title 22.
During review of the facility’s resident roster on 8/17/26, 1 resident was isolated. Per interview with S1 on 8/17/26, resident was isolated and evaluated for possible scabies; however, the resident did not test positive for scabies. At this time, no other residents are exhibiting signs or symptoms consistent with scabies. Staff will continue to monitor residents for any new or concerning symptoms and will promptly report and address any changes in condition in accordance with facility infection control procedures.
LPA interviewed staff 1 – staff 5 (S1 – S5). Of those interviewed 5 out of 5 denied the allegation. LPA interviewed resident 1 – resident 5 (R1 – R5). Of those who interviewed 4 out of 5 denied the allegation and 1 resident was not sure.
Based on information gathered, LPA did not find sufficient evidence to support the allegation “Staff are not following infection control protocol,” therefore, the allegation is unsubstantiated.
No deficiencies were cited for these allegations.
An exit interview was conducted and a copy of this report was provided to the Executive Director, Esperanza Naaktgeboren.
