The Investigation Revealed the Following:
Allegation: Staff are stealing from residents in care.
It is alleged that staff are stealing from residents in care. Reporting party (RP) reported staff are taking the residents’ monies. RP stated residents get paid on the fifth of each month and by the end of the day they don’t have enough money to even buy a soda. A co-complainant alleged staff stole money and a gold ring from a resident (R9). Based on LPA's review of Records of Residents' Safeguard Cash Resources and R9's Personal Property and Valuables record, there is no indication that staff stole from residents. LPA’s interview with five out of six staff (S1-S5) and seven out of eight residents (R1-R7) revealed staff are not stealing from residents in care. One staff (S6) and one resident (R8) refused to make comments to this allegation. S1 stated R9 managed her own monies while residing in the facility and there was no known incident that a staff stole monies and a ring from R9. Based on LPA’s observation, interviews and record review, there is no sufficient evidence to corroborate the above allegation.
Allegation: Residents are being denied liquids while in care.
It is alleged that residents are being denied liquids while in care. Reporting party (RP) reported residents are denied extra orange juice. Co-complainant stated staff refuse to give coffee and milk to residents. Based on LPA’s observation, pitchers of fruit juices and water are readily available in the dining room for residents in care. LPA observed a large coffee brew station in the courtyard readily available for residents in care. LPA observed several residents drinking coffee while sitting and chatting in the courtyard. LPA’s interview with five out of six staff (S1-S5) and seven out of eight residents (R1-R7) revealed residents are not being denied liquid while in care. One staff (S6) and one resident (R8) refused to make any comment to this allegation. S1 stated water, juice and coffee are available to residents in the dining room and can be self served during meals. Residents (R1, R3 and R5) stated staff willingly give extra drinks to them. Based on LPA’s observation, interviews and record review, there is no sufficient evidence to corroborate the above allegation.
Allegation: Resident(s) handled in a rough manner while in care.
It is alleged that residents are being handled in a rough manner while in care. Reporting party (RP) reported while staff was pushing a resident (unknown) in a wheelchair hard, resident fell off the wheelchair. LPA’s interview with five out of six staff (S1-S5) and seven out of eight residents (R1-R7) revealed residents are not being handled in a rough manner while in care. One staff (S6) and one resident (R8) refused to make any comment to this allegation. S1 stated there is no known incident that a resident fell out of a wheelchair. Based on LPA’s observation, interviews and record review, there is no sufficient evidence to corroborate the above allegation.
