On 4/9/2024, at approximately 9:30AM, Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Jonathan Tse and Diana Alvarado conducted an unannounced annual visit at the facility. LPAs met with Licensee Mary Cashman-Daniels (L1). There were no children or helpers present during today’s visit. L1 stated that the facility was currently closed for spring break. The facility is currently undergoing remodeling. The facility’s operating hours are from 7:45AM to 4:45PM.

Daycare Areas: Living room, Dining room, Kitchen, Bathroom, Bedroom #1, Bedroom #2, Office, Front Yard, and a covered Deck (Playroom).
Off-limits Areas: Master bedroom, Deck (close to the driveway), and the garden area of the Yard.

LPAs inspected the home for any health or safety hazards. LPAs observed the home to be in clean and orderly condition. The home is equipped with two fully charged 2A10BC fire extinguishers. There is a carbon monoxide detector present in the Kitchen that was demonstrated to be operational. LPAs discussed covering electrical outlets with L1. There is a fireplace present in the Living Room that is covered to be inaccessible to children in care. Per L1, there are no firearms present in the facility.

LPAs observed age-appropriate toys and learning materials to be present in the Playroom. There are cribs and pack-and-plays available for children to nap on. Sheets and bedding are washed every other day or as needed. Furniture is age-appropriate and free of rough, loose, or sharp edges. Per L1, children nap in the Living Room, Bedroom #1, and Bedroom #2. Children bring lunch and snacks from home. The facility will provide snacks if necessary.

LPAs observed the Front Yard to be equipped with age-appropriate toys and equipment. LPAs observed loose nails to be present on the fence. LPAs discussed keeping fence free of loose nails with L1, and the nails were removed during the visit, The fence is at least four feet high. There is a pet dog present in the home that does not have contact with children in care. There are no pools or other bodies of water present in the facility.

LPAs reviewed four personnel records, five children’s files, and facility records. LPAs discussed immunization requirements for adults working in the home with L1. LPAs observed children’s files to be complete. Required postings were discussed with L1. LPAs observed the facility license, Notification of Parents’ Rights, and the facility roster to be posted.

Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.

LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with Licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-andresources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.

Licensee was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain child care by connecting them to child care providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California.

During the exit interview, Licensee confirmed that there are no Registered Sex Offenders living in the facility and LPAs completed the RSO profile in FAS.

No deficiencies were cited during today's visit on 4/9/2024.
