On October 17, 2022, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Brannon conducted an announced prelicensing inspection due to change in capacity for the toddler program. Toddler option increased from 14 to 24. The preschool capacity will remain at 45. LPA met with Director Danielle Waite. LPA conducted an inspection, toured the center’s classrooms and play yard. The center is located at UC Merced. The facility is located on Ranchers Road. This program will operate year-round. This facility hours of operation from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Friday. This program will operate in the two toddler classrooms and there are two preschool classrooms. Director Danielle Waite, stated that staff and children use masks while indoors.

Director stated that the center provides a morning and afternoon snack. During lunch, licensee provides milk to children. Lunch will be provided by the parents and stated that the center has a plan in place in case a parent forgets to bring their child lunch. There is a kitchen on site in case food needs to be warmed up or stored.

The classroom was observed to be clean and free of toxins. LPA observed that the furniture and equipment appeared to be safe and in good condition. There are enough tables, chairs, cots, and plenty of toys for children to play. LPA also reminded Director, Danielle Waite,to not store anything on top of high bookcases that could potentially fall on children. There is a working carbon monoxide detector inside the kitchen.

LPA reviewed with Director, Danielle Waite, that any future changes to the classroom(s) are required to ensure that furniture does not tip over on to children, the furniture are to be anchored or situated that tipping does not occur. Classroom changes of furniture shall be situated that 100% visual supervision is always provided to children in care.

Room measurements were taken and reviewed with Director, Danielle Waite. The total inside toddler area measured to an approximate 943 square feet which will only accommodate the requested capacity of 24 children in the toddler program. There is adequate storage space available for children's belongings in the classroom. Toys and equipment appear to be age appropriate. There is a total of three toilets, 2 sinks located in the classrooms, right outside the restroom. There are two changing tables with a sink between them. This sink is the handwashing faucet that is only utilized for changing diapers. There is a water fountain inside each classroom that children use to have water readily available to them. Facility provides water bottles with the children’s pictures. Staff will refill children’s water bottles as needed throughout the day.

The outside play yard was not measured during today’s inspection. The toddler program has a separate outside play yard from the preschool play yard.
