Facility failed to provide refrigeration storage for food and snacks

On March 25, 2025, Licensing Program Analyst(LPA) Darnella Barnes conducted an unannounced complaint investigation at the facility regarding the facility failed to provide refrigeration storage for food and snacks. The purpose of the visit was explained to Site Supervisor Special Lopez, who granted access to the facility. At the time of the visit, the Site Supervisor, four staff members, and 31 children were present.
LPA toured the exterior and interior of the facility. LPA did not observe any children’s food stored in the refrigerator. LPA observed that children’s food was stored in the children’s individual storage areas located outside of the classroom. An interview with Site Supervisor Special Lopez confirmed that the facility did not allow storage of children’s food in the refrigerator. A review of records, including the Teddy Bear Parent Handbook under School Supplies Provided by Parents, stated that parents must provide a lunch box with ice packs to keep food cool and a thermos to keep food warm, and that the facility did not refrigerate or heat food items.

Based on LPAs observations, record review(s), and interviews which were conducted, the preponderance of evidence standard has been met, therefore the above allegation(s) is found to be SUBSTANTIATED.
During today’s inspection, one Type B deficiency is issued on attached 809-D. Appeal rights provided.

A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days.

Based on LPA facility observations and interview conducted on March 25, 2026, with the Site Supervisor, it was determined that the facility did not comply with the cited section above, which created a potential risk to the health, safety, or personal rights of persons in care. The facility did not store the children's food or snacks in the refrigerator
