32 | Hazardous items, including cleaning supplies, detergents, medications, and poisons, were stored out of children’s reach. No dangerous conditions were observed. Licensee reported that there was a firearm in the home. LPA Barnes observed that the firearm and ammunition were secured and locked in separate locked storage containers. Licensee stated smoking was prohibited.
Outdoor areas were inspected. Off-limit areas include locked shed and side yard (left side when facing home). The backyard was enclosed with a five-foot fence. LPAs reminded the licensee to notify Licensing before making changes to the home or yard.
Licensee CPR/First Aid certification expires 6/16/26, Mandated reporter certification expires 3/17/27. LPAs reviewed staff file which was complete including CPR/First Aid certification expires 3/20/28, Mandated Reporter certification expires 3/16/28
The licensee was reminded that children living in the home are counted in the facility’s capacity until they reach 10 years of age. The requirement to supervise children at all times was acknowledged, along with an understanding of the procedure for designating a qualified substitute during temporary absences, not to exceed 20 percent of operating day care hours per day.
Five children’s files were reviewed and were complete, including the Affidavit Regarding Liability Insurance for Family Child Care Home (LIC 282). Licensee provides transportation. LPAs reminded the licensee that a valid driver’s license is required, children may not be left unattended in vehicles, and proper car seats or booster seats must be used.
Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living in the home, persons who provide care and supervision to children, and staff who have contact with children, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5-days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30-days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.
