32 | Classrooms 8 of 8 were toured with the director. Classrooms 8 of 8 were inspected and the activity space, and items that could pose a danger to children (detergents, cleaning compounds, and medications) were observed to be stored out of the reach of children.
The tables and chairs were observed to be scaled to the size of the children in the classrooms. All play equipment and materials used by children were observed to be age-appropriate. The facility provided a variety of age-appropriate equipment, toys, and materials in good condition and in sufficient quantity to allow children present to fully participate in planned activities. Furniture and equipment were observed to be maintained in good condition, free of sharp, loose, or pointed parts.
Cots used for napping were observed to be maintained in a safe condition. The facility was reminded that napping equipment shall be arranged so that each child has access to a walkway without having to walk on or over the cots or mats of other children. Bedding shall not be shared by different children without first laundering the bedding. Bedding shall be individually stored so that each child's bedding is identifiable and no child's used bedding comes into contact with other bedding.
Children bring their own water bottles from home and the school has refill stations at the facility, various outdoor playing areas.
The facility provides meals and was reminded that in childcare centers providing meals to children, the following shall apply: (1) All food shall be safe and of the quality and quantity necessary to meet the needs of the children. Each meal shall include, at a minimum, the number of food components as specified by Title 7, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 226.20, (Revised January 1, 1990) Requirements for Meals, for the age group served. All food shall be selected, stored, prepared, and served in a safe and healthful manner.
The LPA observed medication being stored in the main office, near directors' desks. Medication is typically stored in nurse's office, but medication has been temporarily relocated due to construction work on campus. The LPA reviewed the record of current medications, including the name of the prescribing physician, and instructions for currently enrolled students in the facility. LPA reminded assistant director that some of the prescription medications will expire within the next 1-6 months.
