On 07/29/2024, the Orange County Child Care Office received a complaint alleging: 1) Staff did not prevent day-care child from biting other day-care children.
During the investigation, LPA toured the facility, obtained Children’s Roster LIC9040, updated Personal Roster LIC500, ouch/incident reports, Parent Handbook, ABC Behavior Intervention Plan, conducted interviews with the Reporting Party, staff, parents, and children.
On 08/01/2024, Reporting Party (RP) stated that Child #5 (C5) has come home more than once with bite marks and that nothing is happening to stop the biting.
LPA conducted 2 visits on 8/02/2024 and 9/24/2024. During visits LPA observed children during classroom and playground time. Staff were supervising and supporting children going to the bathroom and eating morning snack. During playground time staff were engaged and positioned at different points on the playground.
On 8/02/2024 LPA conducted an on site inspection for the purpose of a complaint received to the Orange County Child Care office. LPA interviewed 6 staff (S1-S6) on this date. During staff interviews S1-S6 stated that when supervising children, they always keep watch of children. When asked about managing behavior 4 out of 6 staff stated that they will use redirection for children and stay close by a child who needs support when needed. S1-S6 expressed that if an accident or injury takes place that they will first attend to the child and then fill out an Accident/Incident Report and give a copy to the child’s parent/guardian. Depending on the injury a phone call to the parent/guardian is made. 5 out of 6 staff stated that KinderCare provides ABC Behavior Plans for children who need support. During inspection a review of records on this date indicated that facility staff have provided incident/accident reports for children in care to parent/guardians and created ABC Behavior Plans for children who need support.
During second visit on 9/24/2024 LPA interviewed 1 staff (S7) and attempted to interview 4 preschool children (C1-C4) and (C1) interviewed with LPA. C1 expressed that teacher S7 helps them when needed with other children in the classroom. S7 stated that supervision is having eyes on children at all times with no blind spots. S7 expressed they will manage children’s behavior by redirecting the child by using other activities and if an injury or accident happens that they will notify the office. Continue to page 3. |
