32 | On 6/25/2024, the LPA interviewed reporting party (RP) about the allegations below. RP reiterated the and did not add additional details.
Allegation: Staff forced a child to wake up.
On 6/26/2024, the LPA interviewed four staff about this allegation. All staff denied that they abruptly wake up children when they are being picked up during naptime. Staff 1 (S1) said they “We don’t wake them up. We never force them to wake up. If it’s a heavy kid, we ask the parent if they want to go inside to pick the child up.” S1 added that, if they are able, they “pick up the child while they sleep, and give the child to the parent.” Staff 2 (S2) also denied they force children to wake up and added “We wake up the child gently. For me, I whisper mommy is here or daddy is here and when I see the child waking up, then I give them to their parent.” S2 said they don’t make the children walk and allowed them to move on their own. S2 recognized that it would be inappropriate to force a child to wake up and hand them over abruptly because they “check diapers too” before the child goes home. S3 and S4 made similar statements. S3 added that when they pick up the child, “the child may wake up.” S4 said, referring to heavier children, “for their safety they wake the child up to walk. It’s a case by case. Sometimes they wake up on their own. Our protocol is to not wake them up.”
Allegation: Staff Handled a child inappropriately.
On 6/26/2024, the LPA interviewed four staff about this allegation. All staff denied that they handled any child inappropriately. S1 stated “we are always very careful when we pick up the children. I hold their bottom and their head.” S2 said they manage challenging behavior through redirection and denied they mishandle children. All staff denied the allegation ever happened.
On 7/18/2024, the LPA called seven parents in relation to the allegations above. Three parents were reached and interviewed. None of the three parents interviewed disclosed any information that could help dismiss or corroborate the allegation. The rest of the parents did not respond to the Department’s request for comment.
Children were not interviewed about the allegations above because they were non-verbal due to their young age. |
