On 10/29/2021, the Regional Office received a complaint with three separate allegations alleging staff shoved a child, staff failed to provide medical assistance, and staff spoke inappropriately about child causing humiliation. Reporting Party (RP) reported one child was crying for having leg pains and the teacher did not provide assistance, instead yelled at the child, which caused child to cry more, and another teacher shoved the same child when the child complained about leg pains.
During the course of investigation, LPA interviewed 5 staff members and 5 parents. LPA attempted to interview 9 children, only one child was qualified to be interviewed, child was the subject child.
During the staff interviews, 4 out of 5 staff denied witnessing any staff yelling or shoving any child in care. 1 staff out of the 5 claimed hearing one staff yelling at a child and came to intervene. One staff reported that another staff had informed the parent of the subject child about the incident. However, when interviewed, the staff who supposedly reported incident to parent was not there at the time of the incident and only learned about the incident when another staff informed her about it. In addition, the staff denied reporting incident to subject child’s parent. There was inconsistency in the information provided by two of the staff regarding the statements reported to the parent.
LPA Tran discovered there were cameras at the facility, LPA requested the owner to provide camera footage for reviewing but was informed by the owner the cameras do not record.
During children interviews, LPA Tran attempted to interview 9 children, 8 children were not qualified. Subject child was qualified for the interview, and child denied being yelled at or shoved by teachers. Child stated the teachers were helping when legs were hurting. Child also denied teachers ever saying anything to hurt their feelings.
During parent interviews, all interviewed parents shared no concern about the day care, instead, they are very happy with the service at the facility.
