Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Angelica Rea conducted an unannounced 10 day complaint visit to this facility. Upon arriving at the facility, LPA met with Assistant Administrator Gloria Gibson. LPA explained the purpose of today’s visit. Adminstrator, Brian Bueniaje arrived at the facility a short time later.

The investigation consisted of the following: tour of facility, including resident rooms #33, #34, #35, #37, #39, #41, #43, and #44, interviews with administrator, assistant administrator, staff #1, and staff #2, and resident #1 - #13. LPA observed that the facility temperature read 85 degrees F, and 82 degrees F on the thermostat(s) in the hallway.

Administrator and Staff interviewed stated that the air conditioning is functioning and has been on all day and night, during the heat wave. Additionally, every resident room has a working ceiling fan. Staff stated that some residents have additional portable fans as well. Staff stated that there may be some areas of the facility that are cooler than others. Administrator and staff stated that some of the residents choose to keep their sliding doors open, even though the air conditioner is on.

Staff stated that they have recommended to residents that in order to keep the cool air in the room, they should close the sliding door(s), but some residents choose to keep them open. Administrator and staff stated that they check on residents to make sure they are doing well and are comfortable.

Residents interviewed were unable to corroborate the allegations. 9 out of 13 residents stated that they were comfortable with the room temperature. LPA observed that some of the resident rooms were warmer than others, however, the rooms that were warmer were the rooms that had the sliding doors open.

LPA observed large fans in dining area, and fans in the medication room, and kitchen area. LPA also observed a cold water dispenser for residents in the dining area.

Based on LPA's observations and interviews, investigation revealed: Although the allegation may have happened or is valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove the alleged violation did or did not occur, therefore the allegation is unsubstantiated.

No Deficiencies cited under California Code of Regulations Title 22. Exit interview conducted, and a copy of report was provided to Administrator, Brian Buenviaje.
