Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Joseph Alejandre made an unannounced visit to deliver the findings of the complaint investigation into the allegation listed above. LPA met with Business Office Manager Roger Cortes. The investigation revealed the following. It was alleged the facility is not following Resident 1's (R1) doctor's order for a wheelchair. The facility provided a copy of R1's prescription for a wheelchair. Staff interviewed reported they have contacted R1's insurance and the healthcare provider who supplies wheelchairs and were told R1's insurance would not cover the cost of the wheelchair and R1 must pay out of pocket if they want a new wheelchair. LPA Interviewed R1 who verified this but, R1 stated they should be provided a wheelchair regardless of insurance refusing to pay for it. The facility has reached out to other provides to assist R1 but because of the insurance issues the providers would not assist R1. The facility is not required to provide residents with wheelchairs and they have assisted R1 in attempting to get a new wheelchair but because insurance will not pay for one, one has not been provided by any of the healthcare providers. R1 currently has a working wheelchair, which was provided to R1 by the facility.
