25 | On August 23, 2024, Licensing Program Analysts (LPA) Lea Habtom arrived to the Scott Leaman Elementary school campus. LPA met with site supervisor Kristy Vandenhoff. LPA observed 5 school age children consisting of 1 transitional and 4 kindergarten being supervised by 4 staff and the site supervisor. At 2:40pm, 24 more school age children arrived to rooms D4 & D5. All criminal record clearances are associated to the STAR Oakhills # 313600444. Facility hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7am - 8 am and 11:20 am to 6:00 pm.
Facility representative was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.
LPA toured the classrooms. There was one child who has a medication on site. Toxic and hazardous items are inaccessible to children. Furniture and equipment are in good condition. Playground equipment and surfaces are free of loose or sharp parts. Facility shares the school restroom and the school playground. The floors appeared clean throughout the facility. Children bring their own snacks. The facility has extra snacks for emergencies. Drinking water was readily available to children both indoors and outdoors. There are no firearms or bodies of water on the premises. LPA observed a dual smoke and carbon monoxide detector built into the room. A random sample of staff and children's files were reviewed today. At least one staff member present today has current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification. LPA reviewed the Department's inspection authority and discussed any changes that may occur regarding the director or an employee acting in the director's absence must be reported to department within 10 working days.
