25 | On October 6, 2023 at approximately 12:40 PM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Josiah Gathing met with Preschool Administrator Stacey Shorey for the purpose of an unannounced annual random inspection. Duration Head Start program operates in rooms 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8. The Early Head Start program operates in rooms 10 and 11. Operating hours for both programs are 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, with a minimum day schedule on Thursdays with an 11:45 AM dismissal. Toddler program operates from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM. LPA observed care and supervision of 37 preschool children by five staff. Criminal record clearances are processed by the school district. The facility has a maximum capacity of 209.
LPA toured the classrooms, restrooms, front desk/office, and outdoor play area. Administrator stated there are no firearms on the premises. Toxic and hazardous items are inaccessible to children. Furniture and equipment are in good condition. Playground equipment and surfaces are free of loose or sharp parts and the ground below the play structure is sufficiently padded. Restrooms are in sanitary condition with functioning toilets. The floors were clean throughout the facility. Medications are stored out of children’s reach and labeled according to regulation.
LPA observed that solid waste containers were covered. School provides family style breakfast and lunch prepared on site. Drinking water was readily available to children both indoors and outdoors. LPA observed electronic sign in devices at the classroom entrances.
LPA reviewed a sample of children’s files and observed them to be complete. LPA observed first aid equipment, alarm system, and fully charged fire extinguishers meeting regulation. Required documents were posted.
