25 | On 04/06/2021 Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jasmine McCrory contacted the facility via phone to conduct an unannounced visit to follow-up on information received from the facility on 03/26/2021 via email. The visit was conducted via telephone due to COVID-19 and precautionary measures. LPA spoke with Martin Nichols, Executive Director (ED) regarding the incident.
The email on 03/26/2021 indicated that the facility had a scabies outbreak with two (2) confirmed cases of scabies in the building. LPA conducted follow-up telephone visits on 03/27/2021 and 03/29/2021.
During today's telephone call, LPA interviewed the ED. The interview with the ED indicated residents still have a red appearance on the skin which is visibly healing. For preventative purposes the facility Medical Director prescribed all residents a topical medication for scabies treatment.
However, eleven (11) residents were diagnosed with scabies although, the facility did not conduct skin scrapes. The ED has notified Sacramento County Public Health Department, every resident’s Responsible Party was notified, and Primary Care Physicians were notified via fax.
For precautionary measures all residents have had their clothes suffocated for seven (7) days and washed with hot water. The chemical used for furniture treatment is the Lysol brand specifically created for scabies. All furniture was cleaned, and any fabric covered chairs were moved out of the building and will not be moved back in until 04/10/20201 after the final scabies treatment. 04/10/2021 is day fourteen (14) of treatment and residents will be administered the final prescribed topical skin treatment for scabies.
At this time, no deficiencies are cited.
A copy of this report has been emailed to the facility and the Executive Director was advised that a signed copy of the report shall be submitted to CCLD within 10 days of receipt of this report. |
