25 | On Thursday, January 23, 2025, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Lea Habtom met with staff member Stephanie James for the purpose of an unannounced required annual inspection. Site supervisor, Jennifer Bateman-McDole arrived to assist LPA during the inspection. LPA observed 9 preschool children supervised by 3 staff. The facility hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The facility is located on the school campus of Cyril Spinelli Elementary School in Room 1. LPA checked in with the front staff.
LPA toured all classroom spaces, restroom, and outdoor play area. LPA observed the following documents are posted: License, Emergency Disaster Plan, Earthquake Preparedness, Personal Rights, Parents' Rights Poster, menu, and seat belt law. Cleaning disinfectants, medications and hazardous items are appropriately stored and inaccessible to children. Facility Representative stated there are no poisons or firearms on the premises. Furniture and equipment are in good condition, and toileting facilities are in safe, sanitary and operating condition. The program provides breakfast, lunch, and snack.
LPA observed trash bins with tight fitted lids. Drinking water is readily available to children both indoors and outdoors. Facility Representative stated that children bring their own water bottles and are refilled at the facility. The facility also has disposable cups and a water cooler. LPA observed the facility’s electronic sign in and out system. Facility has record of conducting fire drills at least every six months; last fire drill was conducted January 16, 2025. Playground equipment and surfaces are free of loose or sharp parts. There is sufficient equipment and toys, and there are shaded areas supplied by shade structures. Children take their water bottles outside.
LPA reviewed staff and children's records which were complete. There is at least one staff member present with a current CPR certificate. LPA observed a functional carbon monoxide detector.
