On March 9, 2022 at approximately 1:25 PM, Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Josiah Gathing and Karyn Guerra met with licensee Tanika Banahene for the purpose of an annual required inspection. The facility days and hours of operation are Monday – Friday 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Licensee reported 12 children are currently enrolled. All individuals subject to criminal background review have obtained a criminal record clearance.

A health and safety evaluation was conducted in all areas accessible to children. Off limits areas consist of: bedroom . LPAs observed a full 2A10BC fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and functioning smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Per licensee, there are no weapons on the premises. Toxic and hazardous items were inaccessible to children. Safe toys were observed in children’s play area. During the inspection, four children were observed sleeping in unapproved equipment. LPAs advised the licensee about approved sleeping equipment and the children were moved to cots during the inspection.

During children’s file review, LPAs located the required documents. Children’s roster and fire drill log were made available during the inspection. The last fire drill was conducted 3/7/2022. CPR and First Aid certification was posted near the entry with an expiration date of 6/27/2023. Mandated reporter training certificate was observed in the licensee files with an expiration date of 12/10/2023. LPAs observed required postings near the facility entrance.

Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual – Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Family Child Care Homes Section 102417. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.

LPAs discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at http://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.

A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Exit interview was conducted and report was reviewed with the Licensee,Tanika Banahene.

A deficiency is cited on the following LIC809D. Appeal Rights were provided.
