25 | On 06/20/2023, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Arianna Manabat conducted an unannounced case management inspection and met with Director, Beverley Scott. The purpose of the inspection was announced and LPA conducted an inspection to follow up to the incident that occurred on June 6th, 2023. The Regional Office was notified that a child 1 (C1) had taken a bottle of milk from another child (C2) and drank from this bottle. The facility reported that the child is allergic to milk and has drank an unknown amount from C2's bottle.
In interviews with staff members, LPA had found that the lead staff had noticed the child with the bottle within a few minutes and that the child did not show immediate signs of an allergic reaction. The lead staff then notified the Director, who administered an epipen. In interviews with all staff present in the room, LPA learned that the child did vomit twice and that emergency personnel were called within a minute of the incident. The Director stated that the parents were notified and arrived on site. Interviews stated that the parents had taken the child to their pediatrician and that no medicine had been prescribed following the incident to administer at the facility. The child was still breathing and showing signs of cleared airway.
LPA conducted a follow-up with the status of C1 and found that C1 attended care the day following the incident. C1 was observed during todays inspection. No deficiencies have been observed or cited at the time of this inspection. An exit interview was conducted and a Notice of site visit and appeal rights were assessed. The Notice of site visit shall remain posted for 30 days for guardian/parental review. Failure to comply with posting requirements shall result in an immediate civil penalty of $100. |
