25 | On Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 12:35 PM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Tanya Washington met with Licensee, Olena Shevchuk, for the purpose of an unannounced annual/random inspection. Upon arrival LPA observed Licensee providing care and supervision to five napping daycare children. Also present in the home is Licensee's minor and adult children. All individuals subject to criminal background review have obtained a criminal record clearance. Facility hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
A health and safety evaluation was conducted in all areas accessible to children. Off-limit areas include: entire second floor, garage, kitchen and laundry room. Licensee acknowledged that children may never enter these off-limit areas. LPA observed that the facility is clean, safe, sanitary, and in good repair. LPA observed a functioning smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, and a full 2A10BC fire extinguisher. The facility has adequate toys that appear to be safe for children to use. The licensee stated there are no weapons or poisons in the home. The fireplace located in the family room is properly barricaded. There are no bodies of water on the premises. LPA observed a safety gate at the bottom of the stairs which prevents children access to the second floor. Applicant was reminded to ensure the gate is closed when children under five years old are present in the facility.
LPA reviewed five children’s files which were observed to be complete. Required postings and the children’s roster were observed. LPA observed that the last fire drill was documented August 2, 2024. Licensee’s CPR/First Aid card expires 10/2025. Licensee's Mandated Reporter Training is valid until 12/20/2025. Licensee is reminded that both certificates must be renewed once every two years. LPA reviewed safe sleep checks for infants under two years old.
LPA verified that the annual fees are current. Licensee was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain child care by connecting them to child care providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California.
