Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Calloway met with the facility Director, Kecia Lovings, for the purpose of an Annual/Random inspection of the School Age component. The facility operates from 6:00 am to 6:30 pm. There were zero school age children and zero staff present during this inspection. The school age component consists of one (1) classroom. During this inspection, LPA toured the facility, observed equipment, furniture, and supplies that are age appropriate. Incidental Medical Services (IMS) were discussed. Center currently has no children requiring IMS. Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid was observed (expires 2/2025). Sign-in and out is done on a kiosk up front as children arrive from the bus and a face and name sheet are done inside the classroom. The parents clock children out on kiosk upon pick up. Per Director, there is a way to print out the sign in/out system through LCW.
Furniture and equipment were inspected for age appropriateness and good repair. The day care room was observed to be clean and safe. Telephone service was verified. Heating, lighting, and ventilation are adequate. There are cubbies for children's belongings. Drinking water is available in the form a pitcher with disposable cups.
Per Director, medications are not being provided. Facility has a surveillance system on the premises which covers each classroom and outside play area. Fire extinguisher, smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector were observed to be in operable condition.

LPA observed a fire pull alarm on the wall near the exit door and sprinkler system on the ceiling of the classroom. Fire/earthquake drills are current.
Outdoor play equipment was inspected for health, safety, cushioning material, good repair and age appropriateness. There are 4 playgrounds. School age children's playground was observed to be free of debris with large play equipment/structures securely anchored. There are wood chips for cushioning underneath. There is an area for shade and rest. Drinking water is available in the form of drinking pitchers and disposable cups. Play area was inspected for hazards and inaccessibility to bodies of water. Behind the area is a home with a large dog. Fencing intact all around. Children are inspected for illnesses as they arrive. A review of medication policy indicated that prescription medication is administered and only with parent's written permission. The director or assistant director administers medication and documents the dosage, date and time onto a log. Medication is brought and taken home by the parent daily or retained in a lock box properly labeled and stored in its original container. There is a separate area for isolation and care of ill children in the director's office. There is a separate cot with fresh linens available for each ill child.
LPA inspected and observed one (1) bathroom inside the school aged room. The restroom has two toilets, but no sink. Per Director, it is not being used (under construction). The kids use the employee restroom in the preschool classroom that has one toilet and one sink. Per Director, during restroom use, staff maintains separation between school age component and the preschool component by waiting at the door while each child uses the restroom and escorts them back to the area. LPA observed soap, toilet paper and paper towels readily available.
There is a fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, two freezers, two microwaves, and 4 sinks. The facility provides breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks.

Weekly menus are posted on the parent board (LPA observed menu dated October 23rd) and none were posted in the kitchen. There is a place for allergy lists to be posted in each classroom. but were not posted in view in the kitchen (inside cabinet out of sight).LPA recommended them to be posted. LPA observed an appropriate amount of food and snacks. LPA observed food that was expired both inside the refrigerator and in the storage area. LPA recommended the food be checked periodically and discarded if it shows expired and not served to the children. Per Director, once the food is received, there is a piece of scotch tape placed on the food and a date written indicating when the food was received. LPA observed food that had dates after the food was already expired. LPA recommended removal immediately. Per Director, the food arrived already expired, but was still in use. Per kitchen attendant the floor is mopped and sanitized once a week. LPA recommended entire kitchen sink, floors, be sanitized daily. The chemicals are kept separate from the food (inside the utility closet- locked). Teacher/child ratios were observed in other components. Center Director was reminded to access the Licensing website at: ccld.ca.gov to review quarterly updates, regulations and obtain information about regulatory changes.
