25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Zirbes met with the Facility Representative Edna Day for the purpose of conducting an unannounced required one year inspection. LPA toured and inspected the entire center, which consists of three classrooms (Class 30 located in room 3 services 2-3 year old children, Class 2 (not in use at the time of this inspection) Class 60 located in room 1 serves 3-5 year old children, two children's restrooms, two staff restrooms, one community restroom, a family learning center, kitchen, teacher lounge, two staff offices, lobby/reception area, speech therapy room, outdoor play space, various storage closets. LPA observed two classroom being utilized during this inspection with a total of 14 preschool children.
Three teachers, and three additional staff members were on site. Based on LPA observation, the Center was meeting the capacity and ratios requirements at the time of the inspection. The facility operates from 7:00am until 4:30pm Monday through Friday. This Head Start Program currently offers full day classes.
Indoor/Children’s Area: Child care center is clean, safe, sanitary and in good repair; all outdoor and indoor passageways, stair ways, incline, ramps, open porches and other areas of potential hazard are kept free of obstruction; floors of all rooms have a surface that is safe and clean, cleaning compounds were inaccessible via either high inaccessible shelf's/cabinet or storage areas equipped with child safety locks. Poisons were locked, furniture/equipment is good condition. The classroom were free of flies, other insects or rodents. Each classroom had tables/chairs to meet the children’s needs. All play equipment and materials used by children are age-appropriate, each child has an individual cubby labelled with their name for his/her clothing, personal belongings and or bedding. Trash cans for solid waste have tight fitting lids. All materials and surfaces are toxic free. The Center does not have a fireplace. The Center has a carbon monoxide detector, along with smoke detectors and Fire Extinguishers (2A10BC) located in each classroom. The Center had working telephone service on the premises. There is an isolation room for children who become ill while in care located near the front lobby. The facility maintains a comfortable temperature at all times. Electronic sign in/out sheets were available and are completed each day. Report continued on page two |
