25 | On May 10, 2024, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Kris Diaz met with applicant, Olajumoke Pierson, who granted access and guided LPA on a tour of the home. People who reside in the home are the applicant, applicant’s brother, applicant’s uncle who have fingerprint clearance and TB skin test on file and applicant’s minor children (1,4,7,8). The applicant is requesting to operate as a small family childcare home. Days and hours of operation are Monday through Friday 6:00am to 6:00pm. Incidental Medical Services (IMS) were discussed with the applicant.
This is a two-story family home. The home consists of five bedrooms, three bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room, family room, laundry room and garage. The primary care will be conducted in the living room. Children will have access to the living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom in the hallway, and the backyard. The off-limit areas of the home include the entire upstairs area made inaccessible with a safety gate at the bottom of the stairs, the laundry room made inaccessible with safety knob, the bedroom downstairs made inaccessible with key lock, and the garage which is accessed through the laundry room. LPA observed safety knobs and key locks to make the off-limits areas inaccessible. LPA observed a gate with missing slats in the backyard. LPA observed several age-appropriate toys and activities in the play area and in the backyard. LPA reminded applicant to provide 100% supervision.
The home was inspected inside for comfort, cleanliness, telephone service, heating, and ventilation. Medications are stored up high in the kitchen cabinet inaccessible to children. The kitchen knives are stored in a lower kitchen cabinet made inaccessible with magnetic locks. Cleaning compounds are stored in the laundry room inaccessible to children.
LPA observed a first aid kit that is kept in an upper kitchen cabinet inaccessible to children. Per applicant, there are no weapons or firearms in the home. LPA did not observe any weapons or firearms. Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are in operable condition.
