25 | On May 25, 2023 at 10:30 a.m., Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Leilani Curtis conducted an unannounced Case Management inspection, for reported Lead Exceedance. LPA met with Program Coordinator Lucia Santa Maria and proceeded to tour the facility. Also present in the facility were 129 daycare children and 18 teachers/staff. Facility was within ratio & capacity. LPA interviewed staff and examined the faucets and drinking fountains deemed an Action Level Exceedance. A water sample was collected from the facility on 12/16/2022. Facility provided facility sketch and required forms (LIC 9275/9276) to Department on 4/11/2023.
Faucets and drinking fountains reported with 5.5 ppb or greater lead exceedance levels were as follows:
Building C, room 7, sink drinking fountain 12.30 ppb
Building D, room 6, sink drinking fountain 27.60 ppb
Building 2, drinking fountain, outside 5.89 ppb
Building 3, drinking fountain, outside 10.10 ppb
Ms. Santa Maria states all faucets/drinking fountains in exceedance were removed and capped off on 4/24/2023. Prior to replacement, all drinking fountains were made inaccessible to children and staff by taping bags over the fountains. Ms. Santa Maria states that all drinking fountains in the facility have been covered and made inaccessible to children since the facility reopened after the Covid-19 closure. All staff were informed not to use the drinking fountains for drinking water or food preparation. Children bring water bottles to school each day and the facility has a water filtration system in the kitchen to provide refills. Food preparation takes place in the kitchen using filtered water. LPA observed a copy of the facility’s water testing report posted on the parent/licensing bulletin board located in the facility office. LPA also observed that the drinking fountains have been removed.
See LIC809D for deficiency cited.
