32 | On 11/26/2024 at 7:47 a.m., LPA toured the facility with Facility Nurse, Veronica Lukasik and observed the thermostat near the medication room set at 70 degrees F and another one near the activity room set at 69 degrees F. At the time, the weather outside was 54 degrees F. Administrator, Brigitta Lofvendahl was interviewed and reported the thermostat is set at 70 degrees F to try to maintain a comfortable temperature for all residents. Administrator added anytime the thermostat is set above 70 degrees F, some residents complain the temperature in the facility is too hot. Administrator explained the facility had additional funding so they decided to replace the furnace since it is approximately 10 years old. LPA reviewed the HVAC estimate dated 7/1/2024. Administrator added the new AC and heating system will include smart thermostats that will allow Administrator to adjust the temperature remotely. Two (2) care staff were interviewed and reported residents have not complained to them about the temperature in the dining room or facility being too cold in the mornings. Five (5) residents were interviewed and corroborated the allegation. As a result, Administrator Lofvendahl reported they would increase the temperature on the thermostat. Based on LPA’s interviews conducted and records reviewed, the preponderance of evidence standard has been met; therefore, the above allegation is found to be substantiated. California Code of Regulations (Title 22, Division 6, Chapter 8), are being cited on the attached LIC 9099 D. An exit interview was conducted, and a copy of this report was provided to EA Valencia.
