32 | An additional interview with a child revealed staff (S6) has grabbed their arm and hurt them, while another interview with a child revealed teachers grab children by their arms to wash their hands, however, that child had not been grabbed by staff. Six interviews with staff revealed staff have not been seen to grab children by their arms or handle children in a rough manner, while one staff interview revealed S10 was observed grabbing a child by the arm with the child’s feet off of the ground. Interviews additionally revealed there is a child who does drop himself and throw himself on the ground and it has occurred when staff are holding the child’s hand. AD denied seeing or being made aware of any staff grabbing or handling children in a rough manner.
Regarding the allegation that staff yelled at daycare children, most interviews with children revealed S6 and S3 yell at the children, however when asked what types of things staff are saying when yelling, children revealed they are directions such as “Eat, Line up, Sit down”. One interview with a child revealed S6 does not say mean things when they yell while another interview revealed S3 has yelled in a child’s face and ears and hurt the child’s ears. That interview revealed S3 said things like “Sit down, go to bed and you’re in big trouble”. One staff interview revealed S3 and S10 have been heard to speak to the children in a rude tone while all other staff Interviews revealed staff do not yell at the children, however, may need to raise their voices at times for the children to hear.
Based on interviews and conflicting statements, the allegations that staff handled daycare child in a rough manner and staff yelled at daycare children, may have occurred, however are not supported or proven by evidence. Therefore, the above allegations are unsubstantiated. An exit interview was conducted and a copy of this report and appeal rights were discussed and provided to Director Evelyn Harper. A notice of site visit was also provided and must remain posted for 30 days. |
