On 06/13/24 at 12:20 pm LPA Gerald Poindexter was conducting a visit concerning another matter at the facility. And conducted an unannounced case management inspection. Also in the home was the licensee’s daughter/helper Amina Jama (who provided translation to Somali). The LPA observed that there were 11 day care children present, including 2 infants.

Upon arrival, LPAs observed children playing with toys and watching TV. LPA reviewed with the licensee and helper about their time out policy which entails having children face the living room wall for a period of three minutes. Also, during this visit, the LPA observed that medications were not made inaccessible to children. Specifically, an unopened box of children’s prescription eye drops was left accessible on the kitchen table where children in care were sitting. LPA reminded the licensee and staff that poisons, detergents, cleaning compounds, medicines, and other items which could pose a danger if readily available to children shall be stored where they are inaccessible to children.

See LIC 809D for deficiencies cited.

Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the licensee Sahra Jofey and daughter/helper Amina Jama. A Notice of Site Visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Failure to comply with posting requirements shall result in an immediate civil penalty of $100. Appeal rights were provided.
