32 | There is 1 access door that has a lockable self-latching child proof safety device no lower than 60" above the ground, freely swings away from the pool without catching, self-latches from any distance it opens from and meets Tittle 22 regulation. LPA observed the lockable latch must be manually unlatched to open the gate. Although there is no requirement, the licensee has taken the initiative and added extra safety measures to protect against accidental drownings or injuries. LPA observed safety equipment to meet Assembly Bill 2866 standards. LPA observed a 17 inch life ring approved by the US Coast Guard, a safely pole with a body hook that extends beyond 12 feet and a door chime alarm on the coy pond enclosure door. Licensee also has a daily pond inspection log. LPA reviewed
The home does not have a fireplace or open face/gas heaters. The home is equipped with central heating and A/C. The fire extinguisher is rated 2-A:10-B:C which meets statutory requirements and is mounted on the wall in the laundry room. The individual smoke and carbon monoxide detectors were tested, met requirements and are operational. Poisons, detergents, cleaning compounds, medications and other hazardous items are stored in a locked cabinet and made inaccessible to children by way of cabinet latches/locks and/or placed on high surfaces. The play area located on west side of the fence that divides the back yard is used for outdoor play and activity. Licensee stated she and her assistant provide direct supervision at all times when children are conducting any outside activities.
Licensee has an ample amount of children's toys, age appropriate outdoor play structures, play equipment, books, electronic games and non-toxic child safe arts & crafts materials available. The Licensee has a working cell phone. Licensee stated there are no firearms, other weapons, or ammunition in the home.
Facility roster is maintained and was reviewed. LPA reviewed a sample of five (5) children’s files. Children’s files reviewed were complete and met regulations.
A review of staff records on this date indicates that all facility staff or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse clearances or exemptions.
Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living in the home, persons who provide care and supervision to children, and staff who have contact with children, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30-days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.
