25 | On 03/11/24 at 10am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Samantha Clenista conducted an unannounced case management site inspection to address facility’s change of capacity application. Upon arrival, LPA met with Facility Representatives, Josefina Curiel (Center Director) and Lisa Grygera (Area Director). All indoor and outdoor activity space utilized for the children were inspected today. The facility requested a decrease in capacity from 40 children to 20 children (ages 2-5 years old) in just Classroom #4. Facility converted their Classroom #5 which was a preschool room, into an infant room. Fire clearance was granted on 01/30/24. The facility also houses an infant and toddler program. LPA observed that the preschool areas (both indoors and outdoors) were physically separate from the infant and toddler play areas. LPA informed Facility Representatives that the programs shall never commingle at any given time and that staff are required to maintain direct visual supervision of the children at all times during indoor and outdoor play to ensure the health and safety of the children. LPA observed a total of 14 children with 2 staff members during inspection.
LPA inspected Classroom #4 and the preschool playground. Facility Representatives stated there is no change in the Preschool Classroom #4 or the playground (other than taking out the patio that was attached to Classroom #5). Classroom #4 was previously measured by LPA Rajani Goudreau on 05/05/2021, and it measured at 1,032.23 sq. ft., sufficient to accommodate updated requested capacity. Indoor play space was observed to be complete with age-appropriate furniture and equipment, including tables, chairs, cubbies, napping cots/mats, bookshelves, and other activity supplies for the children. There is a total of 3 toilets and 2 sinks available for the preschool children. LPA observed there to be an exit door within the classroom that leads directly to an alleyway and busy street. Facility has in place an alarm when opened, however during inspection, the alarm was not operational. Facility building maintenance stated they will install a new alarm since the one that is currently in place is worn out. This alarm is set in place so that the staff can immediately be aware of when the door is open to ensure the health and safety of children while they are in the room. There is an operational carbon monoxide detector on site located in each classroom. All required documents were observed posted in the main parent drop off/pick up area. |
